A new event leading into “An Artists’ Christmas” has been added to this year’s calendar. Camp Fire USA’s inaugural Plein Air Paint Out, a unique outdoor painting event will be held at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden October 23 – 26. 

'Plein air' is a term derived from the French phrase en plein air, which literally means 'in the open air'. It's a familiar concept today, but in the late 1800s when the Impressionists ventured out of their studios into nature to investigate and capture the effects of sunlight and different times of days on a subject, it was quite revolutionary. Up to thirty plein air painters will be located throughout the Botanic Garden from 8AM until dusk. This family event, open to the public, gives attendees the opportunity to watch a piece of art being created while interacting with the artists. On Sunday, October 26, a Quick Draw Competition will be held at 10:30AM, which challenges the artists to create a painting in four hours. All paintings from the Camp Fire USA Plein Air Paint Out will be available for pre-bidding at the Paint Out event and for final bidding at “An Artists’ Christmas” event. A VIP Artists’ Awards Reception will also be held at the Botanic Garden on Sunday, October 26 at 3PM.
